Support Ontario Youth (SOY) rolls into Lively District Secondary School for its Tools in the Trades Boot Camp. Bringing together aspiring apprentices with employers and professionals in the construction and electrical and millwright fields, the Boot Camp aims to help streamline and simplify the apprenticeship journey.

30 participants will take part in a full-day workshop designed to help future apprentices develop the skills needed for success in the industry. Sessions will include a focus on the employability skills necessary to get hired, as well as experiential, hands-on opportunities to work with the tools used in the construction and electrical (October 18th) and millwright (October 19th) trades.

NHL legend Marcel Dionne will be accompanying the SOY crew. The Drummondville, Quebec native is the all-time leading goal scorer amongst French-Canadian hockey players, and is 6th on the NHL’s career goal-scoring list, recently passed by Alex Ovechkin.

Each participant will leave the session with a toolkit specific to construction and electrical trades. Valued at over $250, each kit is full of professional-quality tools suitable as an apprenticeship starter kit, giving participants a leg up on their early apprenticeship journey.

SOY's mission is to support apprentices, employers and all stakeholders in the skilled trades industries. Our goal is to modernize the apprenticeship pathway by becoming a complete and transparent resource for those looking to enter the skills trade. We are committed to being  available to business owners, teachers and industry professionals, and to help consult on apprenticeship details in Ontario. The Sudbury Boot Camp is one of the first of 70 that will take place across Ontario this year.
